He estado taaaan atareada últimamente.  Pero una seguidora me pidió la explicación. Y a eso no me puedo resistir…

I thought I was being smart by only posting pictures of this activity. I've been sooo busy lately. But then a follower asked me for the explanation. I couldn't resist making her happy... I'm not quite sure I know the right wording or vocabulary. I hope you understand.

Gracias Nancy y Jeannette!

This is Yn using the stamps to lay out the number 1869 (one thousand eight hundred sixtynine). Montessori uses "stamps" to show or demonstrate a quantity. The child should start laying out the smaller quantities, then progresses to the larger ones. The order should be ones, tens, hundreds and thousands. Each stamp or square block has a designated color and value. The ONE is green and represents 1, the TEN blue and 10, the HUNDRED red and 100, and the THOUSAND green and 1000. The number you write on a strip or a piece of paper for the child to lay out should be written using this same color code so that he can visually make an association of color and place value. The stamps we used are a homemade version of the original ones. My friend happened to have these wooden square blocks which were the same Montessori colors. Then, a permanent marker was used to write the value on each block. The bin was purchased at Walmart's (fishing area). Thanks Nancy and Jeannette!
